3-Day Nyungwe Primates tour
3 Days Nyungwe Forest Tour, Nyungwe forest national park is the oldest and largest park located in the southwestern region of Rwanda. The park is rich in biodiversity and has great views of the green conservation area which survived through the ice age. The park is home to the endangered chimpanzees and other 13 primate species such as Ruwenzori colubus, L’Hoests monkey, silver monkeys and golden monkeys, Hemlyn’s monkeys, vervet monkey, olive baboons and the grey cheeked mangabey.
Day 1
Pick up from the airport by the driver and visit the old King’s palace in Nyanza en-route. Then drive to the Nyungwe forest national park.
Day 2
After an early morning breakfast, you will be taken to the headquarters at Uwinka information center for a briefing before the chimpanzee trekking commences in Cyamudongo forest.. You will be assigned guides and allocated chimpanzee families to trek. The activity may take 1-8 hours depending on the location of the chimpanzee family. Once you locate the chimpanzees, you will only be allowed to spend with 1hr where you can take photos and observe their behavior. Later on you will visit Nyungwe’s biggest waterfalls on Isomo trail.
Day 3
After an early breakfast, visitors will have the chance to go for a canopy walk that enables tourists to have a bird eye’s view of lush green forests and wildlife that call the canopies home. You will then return to the lodge to pack ready for departure and then visit the Rwanda National Museum in Butare town and Lake Kivu en-route.
